Away3D 2.2: RailAway Express
by Fabrice Closier
At the risk of starting something of a tradition, it's time once again to take you for a little ride. RailAway Express is a ticket for a unique travel into the realm of Away3D 2.2 and it's new runtime model generation and animation features. Its probably our last Flash 9 demo too.
Almost everything you see along your journey in this 780 kb all in demo is code generated.
A special thanks goes to Andre Michelle and Joa Ebert for their help on the sound dynamics.
Some of the new features in 2.2 include:
So turn up your speakers and enjoy a wild ride into the realm of Away3D 2.2!

I have recently started using Away3D and really love it. Tons of really useful classes!!!
Just one thing that drives my bonkers.... the use init objects instead of params is incredibly counter intuitive since they don't support code hinting. Why? Large libraries require code hinting to learn the library on the fly, its the one thing that drives me up the wall. Is there any way to get proper code hinting with the init objects?
Fabrice Closier said:
Hey Stephan,
The init Object helps to keep your classes short and readable.
We've placed a poll a few weeks ago on this, the result was an exact 50/50. So we've decided to implement both to make everyone happy. Where you can do new Primitive({initObject}); , you also can do, new Primitive(), prim.prop = and prim.build();
Some classes are not yet supporting both systems but will be updated in upcoming releases. Note that for Flash CS3/CS4 users, a code hinting component will be soon available as well.

To get started with Away this demo source would not be the easyest way to go. The demo is basically using only 4 classes. The Path, PathExtrude, PathDuplicator and PathAnimator. In the tutorial section you can already find a tutorial on Path declaration, how to use the PathExtrude and the PathAnimator. In the coming weeks more tutorials will be added to show how to combine them together, to generate content like in the RailAway demo.
